Road Through The South Atlantic Conference Not Kind Too LMU Volleyball Team Over The Weekend

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University volleyball team dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches on Friday and Saturday while traveling on the road through the states of North and South Carolina.

On Friday evening, the Lady Railsplitters traveled to Salisbury, North Carolina and fell victim to the Catawba Indians 3-1 in league play.  On Saturday, LMU traveled southwest to Newberry, South Carolina and also fell to the Indians of Newberry College 3-1.  Both losses were particularly frustrating due to the fact that LMU came out and defeated both opponents in the opening games of each match only to lose the next three.

On Friday evening, the Lady Railsplitters opened with a 30-25 win over Catawba but were then defeated 30-20, 30-14 and 30-27 to fall to Catawba for the second time this season.  On Saturday, again the Lady Railsplitters opened with a win, this time thrashing Newberry 30-17.  Following the win in game-one, Newberry bounced back to come away with 30-25, 30-15 and 30-18 wins over the Lady Railsplitters, dropping LMU’s record to 19-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

With only three matches remaining on the 2007 regular season schedule, LMU will have only two more opportunities to get back above the .500 mark before the conference tournament in Jefferson City, Tennessee.  Both Tusculum and Wingate are playing excellent volleyball right now, but a road-victory Wingate will be a tall order.  The Bulldogs are 27-1 on the year and riding an 18 match win streak.  Before the Lady Railsplitters can try to upend the Bulldogs however, they must take on in-state rival Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN.  That match is set to get underway on Halloween at 6:30 p.m. and the Pioneers will be wearing their orange and black.
