OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release April 22, 2008 LMU Volleyball Honors Four At Athletics Banquet HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University volleyball Head Coach Mike Smith presented team awards to five of his players from the 2007 season Tuesday night at the University’s annual Athletics Banquet held on the LMU campus. Named Most Improved was freshman Lia Bevins (Piney Flats, TN). Although she played in only 37 games this season, Bevins made progress throughout the season that earned her playing time in many late-season conference matches. Bevins, a defensive specialist averaged 1.22 digs per game this season. The 2007 volleyball MVP award went to Lady Railsplitter sophomore Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, TN). Horenkamp led the team in kills this season with 430 for an average of 3.52, while also averaging 3.63 digs and 0.19 assists per game. Horenkamp’s play was instrumental in the Lady Railsplitters finishing 20-15 this season. The 2007-08 Lady Railsplitter award was given to outgoing senior Amanda Baker (Los Banos, CA). The Lady Splitter award is given to a player that exemplifies tremendous work ethic, team leadership and has been involved with campus and community involvement along with other contributions to the team. The Newcomer of the Year award for the 2007-08 volleyball season had co-recipients this year. LMU’s Lauren Kiwacka (Tipp City, OH) and Alicia MacIntyre (Muncie, IN) shared the award. Kiwacka played her freshman year at the setter position, handing out 7.19 assists per game, while tallying 1.96 digs, 0.68 blocks and 1.23 kills. MacIntyre, a libero, averaged 4.32 digs per game to lead the Lady Railsplitters in the category, while playing in 117 games this season. The Lady Railsplitters will return 12 players this August when they open the 2008 fall season. -LMU- For additional
