Lady Railsplitters Shut Down Tusculum

Greeneville, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter volleyball team improved to 19-9 Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over the Lady Pioneers of Tusculum College in Alpine Arena in Greeneville. (Box score)

LMU rolled to a 30-23, 30-21, 30-21 win over Tusculum to blank the Lady Pioneers for the second time this season, and to pull within one game of the magical twenty-win mark that many teams shoot for each season.

Lady Railsplitter junior Heidi Dreiling (Augusta, KS) led LMU in the kills category with 12 on the night, while senior setter Allison Holstein (Brownsburg, IN) recorded 30 assists for the match.

Defensively, Lincoln Memorial only had two players reach double figures in the digs category.  Senior libero Courtney Marton (Springfield, OH) played much like a wall, recording 20 digs, while junior Blythe McCulley (Springfield, IL) notched twelve more.

In the blocks category, the play of senior middle hitter Melissa Blackwell (Victorville, CA) was devastating to the Lady Pioneers; Blackwell contributed five block assists at the net to make things even more difficult for the Tusculum attack.

The LMU women will be in action again this weekend when they travel to Pensacola, Florida on Saturday to take on the Lady Argonauts of the University of West Florida.  From there, LMU will head for South Georgia and the city of Valdosta on Sunday to play the Lady Blazers of Valdosta State University.  Both matches could prove crucial in LMU’s bid to earn a second consecutive GSC Tournament berth in early November.
