LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release April 28, 2007 LMU Dethrones King On Lady Railsplitter Senior Day
HARROGATE, TN – With the exception of a lead-off homerun in the second game of a double-header Saturday afternoon, the Lady Railsplitter softball team had little trouble rolling up a senior day double-header sweep of visiting King College.
In the first game of the afternoon, LMU senior and multiple record holder Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, TN) finished 1-3 at the plate with two RBI and her 15th homerun of the year while also picking up the win from inside the circle to give LMU a 5-0 victory over the Tornado. Walker allowed only two hits and no damage while walking two batters and striking out 10 in her last home performance. LMU Devin Sponsellor (Delaware, OH) and Kara Faidley (Bristol, TN) also had hot bats at the plate. Sponsellor was 2-3 on the game while Faidley was a perfect 2-2.
In the second game, again it was Walker that went out of the yard when she hit her 16th homerun of the season and finished the game 2-4 with three RBI however; it was the LMU freshmen that seemed to shoulder most of the load. Lady Railsplitter Sara Henn (Kettering, OH) was 3-4 at the plate with one RBI while Sponsellor was 1-2 with two runs batted in and freshman Jessica Locker (Tipp City, OH) was 2-4 with another RBI.
Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) notched her 13th win of the season in the 8-1 victory in Saturday’s second game. After giving up the lead-off homerun, click finished the afternoon with four innings work, giving up three hits, one run and one earned run with one walk and four strikeouts. Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) shut the door over the next three innings, giving up no damage, only one Tornado hit and allowing no walks.
Now 35-18-1, the Lady Railsplitters will close out the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon on the road against Brevard College. Realizing they may not qualify for the NCAA Division II regional tournament, Sunday’s games will be to send the four seniors out on a winning note and for little other than pride. LMU and Brevard will get underway at 2:00 p.m. on the Brevard College campus. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
