Lady Splitters Out Battle Battlers
HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team got back on the winning track Thursday afternoon after suffering a double-header loss to Mars Hill College on Wednesday. LMU defeated Alderson-Broaddus College 5-0 and 9-1 to improve to 14-9 overall.
The Lady Railsplitter bats were about as hot as they come in Thursday’s win over the Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus. LMU totaled 23 hits in the double-header and showed no signs of despair from Wednesday’s setback.
Junior pitcher Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) went the distance in the first game to improve to 6-2 on the year. Click scattered four hits over seven innings and allowed no damage, striking out four en route to the shutout. Freshman Sarah Henn (Kettering, OH) led the Lady Railsplitter charge by going three-for-four at the plate in game-one with three RBI and her fifth homerun of the year.
Although Alderson-Broaddus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning of Thursday’s second game, LMU came roaring back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead behind six runs. In the seventh inning the Lady Railsplitters shut the door on the Battlers by tacking on the final three runs to run-rule Alderson-Broaddus 9-1.
Sarah Henn notched her second win, improving to 2-0 on the year. Senior Brittney Walker’s (Ooltewah, TN) three-for-four performance with three RBI spearheaded the Lady Railsplitter attack while it was Sarah Henn’s solo blast, her sixth of the season and second of the day, that highlighted the game.
This weekend the Lady Railsplitters will travel to Due West, South Carolina to take on Erskine College in a double-header. Saturday’s action is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. on the EC campus. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
