Rain Holds LMU & Limestone To One Game

HARROGATE, TN – On a day there wasn’t supposed to be any inclement weather, the Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters and the Lady Saints of Limestone College were able to complete one game out of two before mother nature decided to give the tri-state area some unscheduled rainfall.

LMU defeated Limestone in the only game of the afternoon by the final of 6-5.  Despite the drizzle and cloudy conditions, the game when down to the wire with the Lady Railsplitters picking up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  The two teams shortened the intermission between games in an effort to try and get in the second game however, the rained proved to be steady and began to fall harder forcing a termination of game two in the fourth inning.

LMU senior Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, TN) started inside the circle for the Lady Railsplitters.  Walker lasted 4.1 innings before teammate Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) was called in to relieve.  Although Click eventually got the win, Walker was called upon in the final inning to re-enter the circle and picked up the save.  Walker’s line for the day included giving up nine hits, five runs and four earned runs while walking two batters and striking out three.  Click only pitched 2.2 innings of work, but recorded her tenth win of the year to move to 10-1 and gave up no runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

From a hitting standpoint, LMU senior Casey Schutte (Springfield, OH) was two for three on the afternoon with an RBI to help the Lady Railsplitter cause.  Freshman Sarah Henn (Kettering, OH) was one for two with two runs batted in and Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) was one for two with an RBI.  LMU’s Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) and Devin Sponseller (Delaware, OH) were responsible for getting the Lady Splitters' other two runs across the plate.

The Lady Railsplitters (20-11) will travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee on Wednesday to try and do what only four other teams have been able to do this season and that is to defeat the Lady Eagles of Carson-Newman College (21-5).   Fifth ranked Columbus State University, North Georgia University, Barry University and the University of South Carolina Upstate are the only teams to have beaten the Lady Eagles this year.  Wednesday’s action is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. on the C-N campus.
