LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release May 3, 2006 Season’s End Bitter Sweet for Two Lady Railsplitters
HARROGATE, TN – For Lincoln Memorial University softball players Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) and Kelly Click (Ashland, OH), the end of the 2006 season comes with mixed feelings. Last weekend the Lady Railsplitters ended the year with a four-game sweep over the Lady Tigers of the University of West Alabama, while realizing they had no chance of going to this year’s conference tournament. Yesterday however, the league office in Birmingham, Alabama named Burk and Click its GSC Eastern Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, thus putting a spin on the end of the season for at least two Lady Railsplitters. In last week’s four games against West Alabama, Burk was seven for ten at the plate with a .700 batting average, a 1.500 slugging percentage, and a .769 on base percentage. In the third game of the series with UWA, the second year starter was a perfect three for three at the plate with two homeruns and four runs batted in on the way to the first GSC Player of the Week honor of her collegiate career. Click, a first year transfer from Tiffin University emerged from the weekend with two victories over the Lady Tigers for a flawless 2-0 week. Her first GSC Pitcher of the Week award comes with a 0.64 ERA, only six hits allowed and nine strikeouts in eleven innings pitched to finish the year with a 7-9 personal record. The Lady Railsplitters ended the season with a 37-27 overall finish, which ties the program’s mark of most wins in a season which was set by LMU’s 2001 softball team that competed in the semi-finals of Gulf South Conference Tournament. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
