OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 22, 2006 West Florida Sweep Drops LMU Softball to 0-8 in GSC PENSACOLA, FL – West Florida became the second consecutive team to sweep the Lady Railsplitters in Gulf South Conference play this week when they knocked off Lincoln Memorial in Wednesday’s double-header 11-3 and 3-1. LMU’s Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) took the loss in the first game, giving up 13 hits, 11 runs and eight earned runs, while her teammates put together a total of only five hits for the game. The Lady Railsplitter’s one, two and three hitters were the only offense to speak of in the afternoon’s first outing. Leadoff hitter Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, TN) was two for three at the plate, while Danielle Sowders (Knoxville, TN) was one for three with an RBI and Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) was two for two with two runs batted in. In game-two, although the Lady Railsplitters held West Florida to three runs, the Lady Argonauts limited LMU to only three hits and one run that came when junior Brittney Walker went out of the yard on a solo homerun. Sophomore Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) got credit for her second loss in the series with UWF. Click allowed seven hits and three runs, all of which were earned in the fourth loss in two days to the University of West Florida. Now 0-8 in the GSC Eastern Division and 18-16 overall, the Lady Railsplitters will try to snap the eight-game losing skid this weekend when they host conference foe Valdosta State University in four games to be play on the Dorothy Neely Field. Saturday’s action with the Lady Blazers gets underway at 1:00 p.m., while Sunday’s double-header will start at noon.
