OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 11, 2006 Another Split for the Lady Railsplitters GREENEVILLE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team finished Saturday’s second day action of the Tusculum College Softball Tournament with their second consecutive split in as many days. The Lady Railsplitters opened the day with a 5-3 loss at the hands of Alderson Broaddus College that was for the most part due to a lack of hitting and two Lincoln Memorial errors. LMU’s Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) got the start and pitched five innings of work, giving up six hits, three runs, and one earned run, while walking no batters and striking out two before giving up the circle to teammate Kelly Click (Ashland, OH). Click pitched only 0.2 innings of the time limit game but gave up one hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout that cost her the loss. Hitting-wise, third baseman Danielle Sowders (Knoxville, TN) was two for three at the plate while centerfielder Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) was one for three with a triple and two runs batted in. Game two against Tusculum College got the Lady Railsplitters back to .500 mark for the tournament. LMU scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead and then held off the Lady Pioneers in the bottom of the inning to come away with the one run victory. Sophomore Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) finished the game two from three at the plate with her first homerun of the year and two RBI. Sowders and Walker were both two for four at the plate with Walker recorded her second triple of the day and knocking in the other Lady Railsplitter run. Walker continued her stellar success inside the circle by giving up only three hits, two runs, and one earned run, with two walks and four strikeouts. The two-time All-GSC selection and current GSC Pitcher of the Week notched her eighth consecutive win since the February 25, game with Brevard College and moved her overall record to 11-2 on the year. The Lady Railsplitters are now 18-8 overall and will begin the Gulf South Conference schedule next weekend when they travel to Florence, Alabama to take on the University of North Alabama in a four game series. The LMU women will play their next home series March 25th and 26th against Valdosta State.
