OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 10, 2006 LMU Splits in First Day of Tusculum Tournament GREENEVILLE, TN – The Lady Railsplitter softball team split a double-header in Friday’s first round action of the Tusculum College Tournament in Greeneville, Tennessee, losing to Virginia Intermont 2-1 and defeating host team Tusculum 3-2. Despite generating seven hits in Friday’s first game of the Tusculum College softball tournament, the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters were held to only one run and suffered their seventh loss of the year at the hands of the Cobras of Virginia Intermont. Senior Kristin Hutchison (Benicia, CA) and sophomore Amanda Wampler (Powell, TN) were each two for three at the plate but LMU scored it’s only run on a wild pitch by Virginia Intermont’s Cherith Hayden in the bottom of the first inning. With help from three Lady Railsplitter fielding errors, LMU sophomore Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) was forced to endure her third loss this season, falling to 6-3 on the year. Stewart pitched six innings, giving up six hits, two runs and one earned run while walking one batter and striking out three. The Lady Railsplitters got even on the day in game two, coming from two runs behind to defeat the Lady Pioneers of Tusculum College for the third time this season. LMU rolled up 10 hits to Tusculum’s five while scoring all three runs in the top of the sixth inning to come away with the win. Junior Gina Grace (Placerville, CA) carried the Lady Railsplitters at the plate, going three for four in the game with one RBI, while teammate Kristin Hutchison was again two for three at the dish. Current GSC Pitcher of the Week Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) got some help from her teammates but notched her seventh consecutive win to move to 10-2 on the year. Walker went six innings, giving up five hits, two runs and two earned runs, while walking three batters and striking out seven. The Lady Railsplitters play their final two games of the tournament Saturday afternoon at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. LMU will square off against Tusculum in their first outing and will close out the afternoon against Alderson Broaddus College.
