LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 9, 2006 Newberry Beats Lincoln Memorial, 4-0 NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College Lady Indians scored in the third minute of play and never looked back, as they defeated the Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters, 4-0, in NCAA Division II women's soccer action Saturday. (Box score) Newberry (3-3-0, 0-1-0 SAC) rebounded well from a disappointing loss to Mars Hill College in their conference opener on Thursday. Junior Inga Woiwode (El Paso, Texas) opened the scoring in the third minute, and dished out assists on the other three Lady Indian goals. Sophomore Najla Bubtana (Miami, Fla.) added on to the early lead with her first collegiate goal by putting away a low cross from Woiwode in the 39th minute to give Newberry a 2-0 halftime advantage. Mandi Butler (Holly Springs, N.C.) scored her third goal of the season in the 62nd minute by heading in an inswinging Woiwode free kick to extend the lead. Brooke Tumblin (Florence, S.C.) closed the scoring in the 89th minute by putting Woiwode's low cross into the back of the net for the final 4-0 score line. Danielle Beckerle (St. Louis, Mo.) stopped all seven LMU shots on goal to earn her first shutout of the season and sixth of her career, giving her sole possession of second place in career shutouts at Newberry. Stephanie Kwoka made nine saves for the Lady Railsplitters, while Heloisa de Oliveira took three shots to lead LMU offensively. Lincoln Memorial drops to 3-3-0 on the season. The Lady Indians play next on Tuesday when they travel to Spartanburg to play USC Upstate, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
