LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 13, 2006 LMU Women’s Soccer Vents Frustration in 11-0 Win Over University of the Cumberlands HARROGATE, TN – After losing back-to-back games against #3 nationally ranked Carson-Newman College and most recently Newberry College, the Lincoln Memorial women’s soccer team got back on the winning track by thrashing NAIA opponent University of the Cumberlands Wednesday afternoon 11-0. (Box score) Despite the rainy conditions, the Lady Railsplitters took a commanding 3-0 lead inside the first five minutes of play and then poured it on to lead 8-0 at the intermission. Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil), Robyn Rowe (Indialantic, FL), Danielle Dos Santos (Campinas, Brazil) and Juliana Povoa (Brasilia, Brazil) all scored in the first forty-five minutes. Oliveira’s hat-trick came just before the half at the 44:39 mark. Oliveira, Dos Santos Camilla Verissimo (Brasila, Brazil), Hanna-Mari Toivonen (Tampere, Finland) and Sarah Harvey (Daventry, England) were all credited with assists in the first half to boost the Lady Railsplitter cause. As the second half got underway, it was apparent the Lady Patriots were out of steam, and with that in mind, LMU Head Coach Helio D’Anna called the dogs off as much as he could. Dos Santos and Povoa combined for the final three goals of the match with help from Tiffany Trent (Powell, TN), and Hanna-Mari Toivonen for the final 11-0 margin. Povoa’s final goals also earned her a hat-trick. Now above the .500 mark again at 4-3 on the year, the Lady Railsplitters will have until this Sunday to prepare for what could be one of their toughest matches of the season when they host Columbus State University. The Lady Cougars are 4-1 overall and stand atop the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. Sunday’s match gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
