LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 1, 2006 Lady Railsplitters Score OT Victory Over Spartans SPARTANBURG, SC - Lincoln Memorial rallied from a 2-0 deficit and Danielle Dos Santos scored the match-winning goal in overtime as Lincoln Memorial took a 3-2 victory over USC Upstate Friday evening in women’s soccer action at County University Soccer Stadium. (Box Score) Lincoln Memorial improves to 3-1-0 on the year, while the Spartans fall to 1-1-0 on the season. USC Upstate hosts East Stroudsburg Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at County University Soccer Stadium. USC Upstate jumped out on top when Nicole Trawick fed Melissa Kuhar with a short through ball and Kuhar pounded a shot into the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead less than four minutes before halftime. USC Upstate added to the lead when Kuhar fired a ball toward the goal and Trawick bumped the ball passed the keeper and into the net for a 2-0 Spartan lead in the 63rd minute. Shortly after, USC Upstate defender Veronica Lewis was issued a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the Spartans a player down for the rest of the match. Lincoln Memorial jumped at the opportunity and scored less than a minute later when Juliana Povoa played a nice pass to Heloisa de Oliveira who put the ball past USC Upstate keeper Diana Wabnitz to cut the Spartan lead to 2-1 in the 72nd minute. With less than four minutes to play in the match, de Oliveira took a direct free kick and curved a shot towards the Spartan goal. The shot glanced off of a Spartan defender and into the goal to lift Lincoln Memorial into a 2-2 tie. Just 1:19 into the first overtime period, de Oliveira broke free on the left side of the field and slid a pass to Dos Santos who pounded a shot that bounced off of the right post and into the goal to give the Lady Railsplitters a 3-2 victory. Lincoln Memorial out-shot USC Upstate 17-8 for the match.
