LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 5, 2007 LMU Women’s Soccer Continues To Add To Roster
HARROGATE, TN – The shaping of the 2007 Women’s Soccer Roster continues. Head Soccer Coach Helio D’Anna has announced two more players to the roster. Karen Boleska (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and Becky Thompson (Frederick, Maryland) have committed to play for LMU this fall. Boleska is a 5’10” defender who played at Notre Dame high school and for the Burlington Thunder soccer club, as well as the 1v1 Soccer Academy. During her career, she accumulated several championships, including the Ontario Cup and the SRSL league championship. Her high school coach, Casey Downey stated, “Karen is exceptionally strong in the air and on tackles. Her long throws cause havoc for the opponent. She is a smart and steady player and competes at a high level.” The daughter of Frank and Grace Boleska, Karen will pursue a degree in kinesiology at LMU. Thompson is 5’6” forward/outside midfielder and played her high school career at Governor Thomas Johnson High School while playing club for the Laurel Wildcats. Her career highlights include being a captain and offensive player of the year three times, as well as all-county, all-conference. She is the 6th all-time scorer at her high school. Her coach Emily Clowser said, “Becky is a talented offensive threat and great leader on and off the field. She uses her speed and skills to break down defenses and create chances for herself and her teammates.” Becky is the daughter of Jim and Laura Thompson and plans to major in Environmental Science at Lincoln Memorial University. Coach D’Anna seemed quite please with the announcements. “I am so excited about next year,” said D’Anna. “We seem to have had an incredible recruiting year on top of a very strong returning class. These two signees are no exception and bring very important elements to the table for us. Karen brings much needed height and strength as well as her skills. Becky brings her speed and capability to play several positions, as well as her scoring proficiency. I can’t wait to see these ladies on the field.” While waiting for the kick-off in the fall, the Lady Railsplitters are in full swing in their spring training with conditioning and work outs during the spring semester. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
