LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 25, 2008 LMU Women’s Soccer Team Gets Stronger
HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer team graduated a very strong class in 2007 and several key players were lost. However, Head Coach Helio D'Anna is working hard to keep and raise the team’s level of performance. The most recent two players added to the roster for 2008 are a good indication of that effort. Leslie Wilson, of Norris, Tennessee and Mariana Machado of Campinas, Brazil will be wearing Lincoln Memorial University uniforms next season. A 5’6” midfielder, Wilson was an all-state player for Anderson County High School where she led the team in points and goals. She also played club soccer for the Knoxville Impact where she was a stand out performer. “Leslie is the real deal and we are so excited that she is coming to LMU,” states D’Anna. “She is strong, skilled, and a leader. She will without a doubt make a huge impact for us next season.” Leslie is the daughter of John and Melita Wilson and will pursue a psychology degree while attending LMU. A 5’2” forward, Machado also brings punch to the roster. As a club player for Valinhos FC, Mariana gained extensive experience both in futsal (indoor soccer) as well as outdoor soccer. She participated with a great deal of success in the prestigious Sao Paulo Regional Games and was among the top scorers in most of her career. “Mariana will pick up where some of our top players have left off in the past. She will be a nightmare to defend and will both score as well as play-make,” added D’Anna. The daughter of Almir and Neiva Machado, Mariana plans on majoring in physical education and kinesiology at LMU. The Lady Railsplitters will open the 2008 schedule on August 30 when the team travels to Barton College in North Carolina. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
