HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Head Soccer Coach Helio D’Anna has inked the first signee for 2007.  Lindsay Wainikainen of Malabar, Florida has committed to become a Lady Railsplitter.

A 5’3” defender and forward, Wainikainen played soccer both at Palm Bay High School and the MEGU-Fusion U18 soccer club.  She was a two year Defensive Player of the Year winner, an All Cape Coast Conference All- Star, and a team captain.

According to her High School Coach, Andrew Caruso, “Lindsay reads the game exceptionally well, is fit year round, and has excellent mental toughness. She is technically very sound and played defense in high school and striker on her state team.”

The daughter of Paul and Donna Wainikainen, Lindsay received praises from Coach D’Anna as well, “Lindsay has great fundamentals and attitude.  It is very impressive to see what she has done having played both defensively and up front.  She had great success in high school and played club for Steve Richards who has sent a number of great players our way in the past.”

Wainikainen and the rest of the LMU Women’s Soccer Team will start pre-season practice in mid-August.  They open on Saturday, August 25th when Pfeiffer College comes to Harrogate.
