Women's Soccer Defeats Mars Hill

MARS HILL, NC - Juliana Povoa (Brasilia, Brazil) scored on a through ball from Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil) at the 64:51 mark to lift Lincoln Memorial University to a 1-0 victory in women's soccer action this afternoon in Meares Stadium. MHC fell to 8-5-1 with the loss while the Lady Railsplitters improved to 7-4-1 on the season. (Box score)

LMU out shot the Lions, 19-to-15 but MHC had a slight (5-to-3) advantage in corner kicks. The Lions had several chances to score late in the contest but could not convert a goal. Claudia Cala (Hamilton, NJ) recorded a season high 14 saves in the loss playing 90 minutes in goal for the Lions. Stephanie Kwoka (Johnson City, TN) also played the entire game in the net for LMU and made five saves.

MHC will host SAC rival Presbyterian College on October 10, at 7 p.m. LMU will play at Clayton State on October 14, at 3:30 p.m.
