LMU’s Thompson Named South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, SC – Lincoln Memorial University’s Becky Thompson (Frederick, MD) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, conference officials announced today. This is the first time Thompson has won the award.

Thompson, a freshman forward, led the Lady Railsplitters to wins against Mar Hill College (2-1) last week and Wingate University (3-2) which helped the LMU women win the 2007 South Atlantic Conference regular season title and secure the number one seed in this year’s SAC tournament.  In addition, Thompson scored the game-winning-goals in both matches, including both goals in LMU’s 2-1 win over Mars Hill College.

On the year, Thompson is tied for second on the team in goals scored with eight, tied for second in assists with seven and is second on the team in total points with 23.

The Lady Railsplitters are 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the South Atlantic Conference entering this week’s first round action of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament.  The LMU women are the #1 seed in Wednesday’s first round game against #8 seed Wingate University.  The match with the Bulldogs will be held at LMU’s Les Gibbs Field at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 31.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12 and students with a valid ID.
