LMU Men’s Soccer Players Earn All-Classic Honors

HARROGATE, TN – Over the weekend the LMU men’s soccer team participated in a classic hosted by Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee.  Aside from defeating both nationally ranked Maryville (3-1), and Guilford College (2-0), the Railsplitters had five players named to the all-classic team.

Lincoln Memorial’s Leonardo de Barros, Leandro Pereira, Nelson Pizzaro, Diogo Silvy, and Felipe Nogueira were all recognized by the voting committee.

For the weekend it was Pereira that was most impressive for Lincoln Memorial, scoring two goals and assisting three more for a total of seven points.  Nogueira, Pizzaro, and Silvy also contributed offensively, each scoring one goal during the weekend and handing out two assists.

This weekend’s wins over NCAA Division III Maryville and the shutout of Guilford afforded the Railsplitters the national and attention they have been seeking in the latest NSCAA polls that were released yesterday.  Lincoln Memorial is ranked #19 nationally this week, while coming in at #3 in the Appalachian Region.

Now 3-0 on the year, the LMU men will see if their ranking is justified on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to #3 nationally ranked Carson-Newman College.  The Eagles are also 3-0 on the year and ranked as the top team in the Appalachian Region.  Kick-off for the match is at 4:00 p.m. on the LMU campus.
