Second Half Goals Doom PC Against LMU
CLINTON, SC - Presbyterian College allowed two second half goals and
NCAA Division II nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial defeated the Blue Hose
3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Martin Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Hose dropped to 1-8-1 with the loss, while Lincoln Memorial
improved to 9-2 on the 2007 season.
The score 1-1 in the second half, Lincoln Memorial's Nelson Pizzaro placed
the ball low and just out of PC goalkeeper Mark Owens' reach to give LMU a
2-1.
The Railsplitters added another in the final minute of the second half when
Claudio Rico chipped Owens from 20 yards out to set the final score at 3-1.
The Blue Hose ended the game with one more shot than the Railsplitters at
18-17 and had a decided advantage in corner kicks at 7-3.
Both teams committed 16 fouls overall.
Lincoln Memorial scored the game's first goal when they found the back of
the net in the 21st-minute when Leandro Pereira used a Marcelo Galafassi
ball and hit a one-time shot past PC goalkeeper Mark Owens.
The Blue Hose and the Railsplitters looked as if the game would remain with
LMU on top 1-0 at halftime, but PC scored at the 44:12 mark when John Odum
took advantage of a Jay Stewart assist and banged the soccer ball into the
back of the goal to square the game at 1-1 entering halftime.
Despite the score, PC outplayed LMU in every statistical facet in the first
half, shooting three more shots (10-7) than the Railsplitters and taking two
more corner kicks than Lincoln Memorial (3-1).
