Second Half Adjustments Lift Railsplitters Over Pfeiffer

HARROGATE, TN – After playing through a defensive struggle the first 45 minutes of the match, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team bombarded Pfeiffer with an offensive attack that produced a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes, allowing the Railsplitters to come away with a 2-0 win over the Falcons on Saturday.

Although both teams spent most of the first half on the defensive, LMU goalkeeper Brent Cole (Knoxville, TN) was on his game each time the Falcons had a shot on goal.  Cole recorded two saves in the match, both coming in the first half to deny the Falcons a goal.

As the second half got underway, it didn’t take the adjustments that LMU Head Coach Helio D’Anna had made long to take effect on the Pfeiffer defense.  Railsplitter sophomore Felipe Nogueira (Uberaba, Brazil) broke the silence of the match in the 58th minute when he scored unassisted to give LMU the go ahead 1-0 lead.  Later, in the 83rd minute, senior Nelson Pizzaro (Pembroke Pines, FL) put in a header off of teammate Guilherme Alves’ (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) free kick to give the Railsplitter their final 2-0 margin.

All toll, the Railsplitters out shot Pfeiffer 16 to 8 en route to their fifth win of the year and their third consecutive win.  While the victory wasn’t a conference or a region match, it was still looked at as a solid victory considering the Falcons were 5-2 coming into the match.

Next Tuesday the Railsplitter travel to Anderson, South Carolina to take on Anderson College in their first road-match since losing to Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida (3-0) on September 2.  The match with Anderson will be played under the lights and will get underway at 7:00 p.m.
