LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release August 31, 2007 LMU Men’s Soccer Team Rolls Over Undermanned Salem International HARROGATE, TN – The Tigers of Salem International University were no match for the powerful Railsplitter soccer team Friday afternoon, as Lincoln Memorial came away with an 11-0 rout. SIU entered the match with the Railsplitters playing a man down, as they were able to field only 10 players due to a coaching change that took place two weeks ago. While Salem International wasn’t ready to give the match to the Railsplitters, the Tigers didn’t have much choice but to fall back and play defense the entire match. In fact, SIU made less than five offensive runs across midfield in the entire 90 minutes of play. LMU Head Coach Helio D’Anna used the first half to get some of his starters some work before calling off the dogs in the early minutes of the second period. D’Anna realized his team needed to sort out a few things before this Sunday’s match in Miami Shores, Florida with unranked NCAA Division II powerhouse Barry University, but didn’t want to fatigue his team too much. Although Friday’s win over Salem International improves the Railsplitters' record to 2-1 and was an Appalachian Region win, the caliber of competition on Sunday will increase tremendously and LMU will have to be ready to play the Buccaneers. Sunday’s match gets underway at 2:30 p.m. in Miami Shores. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
