HARROGATE, TN – Last week, the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department added two more names to the list of individuals who have played for the University and earned All-American honors. The most recent honorees are Diogo Silvy (Santa Catarina, Brazil), a senior midfielder and Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) a freshman forward both of the LMU men’s soccer program. Silvy, a four-year starter with the Railsplitters ends his career arguably as strong as any athlete to ever player at Lincoln Memorial University. During his time as a Railsplitter, Silvy captured a GSC Regular Season title with LMU in 2004, a GSC Tournament Championship in 2005, an NCAA Appalachian Region Championship in 2006, an Elite 8 Championship in 2006 and an appearance in the 2006 NCAA Men’s Soccer Final Four. Individually, Silvy was named All-Gulf South Conference in 2003, 2004, and 2005, All-South Region in 2003, 2004, and 2005, and recently received All-Appalachian Region honors as well as First Team All-American. His efforts on the field weren’t unequaled by his efforts in the classroom. Silvy was a 2005 NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-American and was recently named to the 2006 CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American squad. At LMU he has been a mainstay on the Dean’s List throughout his four years and is currently a candidate for the 2006 NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-American Team which consists of student athletes from all levels of the NCAA. While only a freshman, Pereira has stepped into the Railsplitter program and has become an impact player. This season the 6’2” newcomer led Lincoln Memorial in scoring with 22 goals and nine assists for 53 total points, while helping the Railsplitter men’s soccer program make its first NCAA Tournament appearance, which included the Appalachian Region Championship, the Elite 8 Championship the appearance in the 2006 NCAA Final Four. Pereira was named to the 2006 Daktronics All-Appalachian Region First Team, as well as the Appalachian Region and Final Four All-Tournament Team before capping the season by earning Daktronics First Team All-American honors. Both individuals join a host of current and former Railsplitters to earn All-American honors both athletically and academically. While the award they received is a national honor, these two individuals join an elite fraternity at Lincoln Memorial University that is to be considered the best ever to wear the blue and gray. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
