LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release December 1, 2006 Fort Lewis’ John Cunliffe Headlines Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-America Team; Lincoln Memorial University Has Two First Teamers Joplin, Mo – 2006 NCAA Division II National Champion Dowling University placed four players on the first team and one on the second in leading all schools with five players on the inaugural Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-America Team. Fort Lewis senior forward John Cunliffe is the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year.Cunliffe finished second in Division II this year in points per game and third in goals per game, leading Fort Lewis to a 21-2 record and a berth in the National Championship game. He had 29 goals and 16 assists for 74 points. He shared Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors with his teammate, Cliff Wilmes. Wilmes was named second-team All-American. Dowling goalkeeper Billy Grady was joined by forward Morten Jensen, and defenders John Nessa and Meshach Tinglin on the first team. Jensen finished second in the national Player of the Year balloting and was the 2006 East Coast Conference Player of the Year. Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) made it to the Final Four and had two players named first team. Freshman forward Leandro Pereira and senior midfielder Diogo Silvy led the team in its first year in the South Atlantic Conference.Franklin Pierce had two players on the first team in midfielder Raphael Guimares and defender Bisharra Ettienne. Ettienne was the top vote getter among defenders after helping Franklin Pierce to lead Division II in goals against average and shutout percentage. Division II scoring champ David Hague of Grand Canyon University was one of only two players west of the Mississippi to be named to the first team. Hague led all of Division II with 3.84 points per game and 1.74 goals per game. University of West Florida defender Eduardo Oliveira helped lead the Argonauts to a berth in the Division II Final Four and he rounds out the first team. Oliveira was the South Region Player of the Year. Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men’s soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the first year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II men’s soccer All-America and all-region teams.
