LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release November 5, 2007 LMU’s Pizzaro Named SAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Most Valuable Player
The Railsplitters entered their first SAC tournament as the no. 1 seed, knocking off no. 4 seed Carson-Newman in the semifinals on Friday (1-0). Pizzaro scored the game-winning-goal in that match in the 51st minute with help from teammate Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil). On Sunday afternoon, although he didn’t score a goal, Pizzaro played an instrumental role in helping Lincoln Memorial capture a 3-1 win over Tusculum College to win their first South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship. “The fact that he is as dangerous a scorer as he is, forces opponents to mark him and takes pressure off of some of LMU’s other scoring threats,” said LMU Sports Information Director Rusty Peace. In addition to being named 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP this weekend, Pizzaro also received word this week that he was named Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference this week and First Team Daktronics All-Appalachian Region for his efforts with the Railsplitters this season. The Railsplitters are now 16-3-1 overall, South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Champions, SAC Tournament Champions and are ranked as the no. 1 seed in the upcoming Appalachian Region Tournament. Late Monday evening the Railsplitters will find out who they will face in this year’s first round and when they will play in defense of their 2006 Appalachian Region Championship. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
