Lincoln Memorial Wins Food Lion SAC Men's Soccer Tournament With 3-1 Victory Over Tusculum

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The top-seeded Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters claimed the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Championship with a 3-1 victory over the second-seeded Tusculum College Pioneers at the Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex Sunday.  The win sets a new school record for wins in a season.

Leandro Pereira scored the opener and the game-winner, while midfielder Nelson Pizarro earned tournament MVP honors.

Pereira took advantage of a ball bouncing in the penalty area in the 41st minute and guided his shot to the lower right corner to give LMU a 1-nil halftime advantage.

Tusculum's Bruno Conceicao scored the equaliser in the 57th minute, as LMU goalkeeper Brent Cole was unable to punch the ball out of his area and Conceicao dribbled around him to tie the match.

Pereira's match-winner came from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute. The Railsplitters earned the spot kick as Pereira's attempt at a bicycle kick hit a TC defender in the hand. Pereira put the ball low to the left to give LMU the 2-1 lead.

Tusculum continued to apply pressure on the Railsplitters, but Cole made five saves to hold the Pioneers at bay.

Leonardo de Barros sealed the win with 24 seconds remaining, as he dribbled the ball across the goal line following a breakaway.

The Railsplitters outshot the Pioneers, 17-12, with eight shots on goal. TC's Lance Moore made five saves in the match.
