LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release November 2, 2007 Railsplitters Edge Eagles In SAC Semifinals
ROCK HILL, SC – Lincoln Memorial’s Nelson Pizzaro (Pembroke Pines, FL) struck the fatal blow to the Eagles of Carson-Newman College in Friday’s semifinal round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
After playing to a 0-0 tie in the first half, Pizzaro, a Second Team All-SAC selection, caught a cross from Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) and placed it into the left side of the goal in the 50th minute for LMU’s 1-0 margin.
#1 seed Lincoln Memorial stayed on the defensive most of the match. First Team All-South Atlantic Conference goalkeeper Brent Cole (Knoxville, TN) tallied nine saves in Lincoln Memorial’s fifteenth win of the year.
Carson-Newman’s tournament title run ends with a record of 14-3-2 and with hopes of earning a spot in the upcoming NCAA Appalachian Region Tournament next weekend. Lincoln Memorial improves to 15-3-1 and is now in line for its first South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship when they take on Tusculum College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The #2 seed Pioneers advanced to this year’s tournament finals with a 6-2 victory over #4 seed Wingate University on Friday afternoon. When LMU and Tusculum met earlier this season, the Railsplitters emerged a 3-2 winner over the Pioneers in regular season play. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
