LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 9, 2007 LMU’s Nogueira Named South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Player Of The Week
Nogueira led the Railsplitters to key region and conference win over Lenoir-Rhyne College last week and a non-conference victory over NCAA Division II Maryville College. Nogueira’s goal against Lenoir-Rhyne not only helped the Railsplitters remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference and Appalachian Region play, it also helped Nogueira become the all-time leader at LMU in goals scored among defensive players. Nogueira has now scored nine goals this season, more than any other defensive player in the history of the LMU men’s soccer program. Three of Nogueira’s goals this season have been game-winners, including last Saturday’s header off of a corner kick against Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Railsplitters are ranked #4 nationally in this week’s NSCAA poll released late Tuesday afternoon and #1 in the NCAA Division II Appalachian Region. This weekend the Railsplitters will be trying to remain unbeaten in conference and region play when they host Catawba College at 2:00 p.m. on the Les Gibbs Field. The Railsplitters will also be trying to defeat the Indians for the first time since LMU Head Coach Helio D’Anna took over the program more than four years ago. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
