LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 6, 2007 #8 Railsplitters Defeat #18 Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, NC – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team remained unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference and Appalachian Region play on Saturday afternoon by traveling to Hickory, North Carolina and defeating the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne 2-1.
The Railsplitters received first half goals from Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) and Felipe Nogueira (Uberaba, Brazil) en route to their eleventh win of the season. Pereira’s goal was “spectacular” according to Lincoln Memorial University Head Coach Helio D’Anna. Pereira scored on a pass from teammate and countryman Leonardo de Barros (Brasilia, Brazil) to give LMU a 1-0 lead. Nogueira’s goal came on an assist by teammate Marcelo Galafassi (Jundiai, Brazil).
Now 11-2 overall, the Railsplitters are 4-0 in the South Atlantic Conference with three league matches remaining on the regular season schedule and 8-0 in NCAA Division II Appalachian Region play.
The Lincoln Memorial men now have a week to prepare for their next home conference match with Catawba College. The Railsplitters have never beaten Catawba since Helio D’Anna took over the helm of the program nearly four years ago. The match with the Catawba Indians will be at 2:00 p.m. on October 13. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
