LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 27, 2007 #20 Wingate Blanks #4 LMU 3-0 In SAC Men’s Soccer Action Rock Hill, SC-- The Wingate University men’s soccer team blanked Lincoln Memorial University 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday night at Carlisle Field and the Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex. Wet field conditions at the WU Soccer Complex necessitated the venue change. With the victory, Wingate improves to 15-3-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the SAC. Lincoln Memorial falls to 13-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the SAC. Both teams are ranked in the NSCAA Division II national top 25 poll. The Wingate Bulldogs are number 20, while the LMU Railsplitters are number four. The Bulldogs scored two goals in the first 30 minutes to take the victory. Wingate senior defender Chris Bohach (Charleston, W.Va.) scored his fourth goal of the season (and fourth goal of his career) in the 18th minute to notch the match-winner. Bohach hit a line drive from outside the box to the upper right-hand corner of the nets. In the 28th minute, freshman midfielder Luke Mulholland (Preston, England) tallied his ninth goal of the season on a free kick. The Bulldogs outshot the Railsplitters 6-1 in the opening 45 minutes. Wingate senior defender Ben Clark (Chesterfield, England) completed the scoring in the 72nd minute. Bulldog freshman defender Jack Vundum (Hallgreen, England) served a free kick to Bohach, who touched the ball to Clark in front of the goal. Wingate’s team captain, Clark has two goals this season. Lincoln Memorial kept the pressure on the Bulldogs in the second half. The Railsplitters attempted 12 shots in the final frame, compared to six tries by the Bulldogs. Wingate freshman goalkeeper Joey Calandra (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) collected his 15th win of the season (against only two defeats). The Bishop England High School product had three saves (all in the second half). Railsplitter senior goalkeeper Brent Cole (Knoxville, Tenn.) also went the distance in the goal. Cole allowed three goals and notched three saves. For the LMU offense, sophomore defender Felipe Nogueira (Uberaba, Brazil) took three shots. Three Railsplitter teammates took two shots each. Both teams will host first-round matches in the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Number three seed Wingate hosts number six seed Newberry College (9-9, 2-5 SAC) Tuesday, while number one seed Lincoln Memorial entertains Catawba College (7-11, 1-6 SAC). Official pairings and match times will be announced by the league office on Monday.
