Late Touches On The Soccer Roster

David Lambach

Tom Clark

Victor Plaza

HARROGATE, TN - In previous seasons, Head Soccer Coach Helio D'Anna followed a trend of adding important players to his roster in the late stages of the recruiting season. Last year, Aaron McKenna was a prime example of that fact.  The year before, Leandro Pereira came in late.  Frederico Moojen was another example of the past.  This year, three players have been added to the roster since recruiting has been complete, Victor Plaza (Jundiai, Brazil), David Lambach (Morristown, TN), and Tom Clark (Kent, England) will carry the tradition of the late signees.

A 5’11” midfielder, Plaza played prep soccer for the Winchendon Academy in Winchendon, Massachusetts where he had two goals and 22 assists en route to a 9-4-3 season.  As the captain of his squad, he was an NEPSAC All-Star Team selection and left a good impression with his coach Adrian Clewlow.  “Victor is quick with and without the ball,” says Clewlow.  “He has a superb balance and excellent vision.”   In Brazil, Victor played in the same youth system as former LMU standout Marcelo Galafassi.  The son of Walmir and Rosana Plaza, Victor will pursue Business Administration at LMU.

Lambach is from Tennessee but has strong ties with Brazil.  He and his family currently reside in Para state, located in the northern portion of the country.  His parents serve as missionaries in Brazil which allowed David to join Tuna Luso FC as well as Amazon Valley Academy to play soccer.

A 5’11” keeper, David has been training under coach Joaci and Alexandre at Tuna Luso in preparation for his comeback to the United States.  He is expected to red-shirt in 2008 which will allow for a smooth transition with the graduation of Patrick Riesenberg.  The son of Paul and Elaine Lambach, David is the Valedictorian from his school and is undecided as to what major he will pursue at Lincoln Memorial University.

Clark joins the Railsplitters through the Pass4Soccer program in the United Kingdom.  He played at Canterbury City FC where he won his league and played youth soccer at Folkestone Invicta where he reached the Lions National Cup Final.  According to Barry Poole, director of Pass4Soccer, “I made Tom captain of the tour team.  He was very impressive in the showcase at Chelsea FC Cobham.  He is strong, technical and as smooth as he looks.  He has all the attributes to succeed.”

Clark is a 6’1” defender and participated in the First Touch Academy run by ex-Sunderland professional Billy Bone.  The son of John and Debbie Clark, he will pursue Business Administration at LMU.

LMU Soccer Coach Helio D’Anna welcomes new players, “These are great “pick-ups” that will only make us stronger in the future.  We now have all the pieces in place to continue the strong tradition built with our soccer program.  I can’t wait to see these guys in action.”  The Railsplitters will open the season August 28 when they host Delta State University.
