LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release April 22, 2008 Pereira Named LMU Male Athlete Of The Year HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer forward Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) has been named Male Athlete of the Year by head coaches throughout the University’s athletics program. Following the 2007 fall season, Pereira ranked fifth in total points per game and eighth in goals per game in NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer. During the season Pereira guided Lincoln Memorial to a 20-4-1 record and to the title of NCAA Division II National Runner-Up following LMU’s 1-0 loss in the Division II Men’s Soccer National Championship to Franklin Pierce University. Last season Pereira scored 23 goals, had nine assists and compiled 55 total points while earning First Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors, SAC Player of the Year, Daktronics First Team All-Appalachian Region, Daktronics Appalachian Region Player of the Year, Daktronics First Team Daktronics All-American for the second consecutive time and Daktronics National Player of the Year. As a junior, Pereira will return to Lincoln Memorial University for the 2008-09 season and will be looked at as a team leader in the University’s quest to continue what has become an NCAA Division II soccer dynasty.
