LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 18, 2008 First Two Men's Soccer Signees For 2008 Announced
HARROGATE, TN - Head Lincoln Memorial University Soccer Coach Helio D'Anna has the task of reloading a team that won almost everything it could have won in 2007. The Railsplitters had a banner year that culminated in playing for the NCAA Division II National Championship at the end of last year. Judging by the first two signees, it seems as though the team is on its way to picking up right where they left off in 2007. Willian Moura of Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Renato Segalla, of Santo Andre, Brazil will be wearing Railsplitter jerseys in the fall of 2008. A 6’2” forward, Moura comes to LMU as a transfer from the University of Itauna. Moura is no stranger to American culture, having family in Newtown, Connecticut where he has attended ESL classes. During his time as a child in Brazil, he played for various youth clubs including Clube Atletico Mineiro. “William is very fast and strong,” – says D’Anna. “He will fit nicely playing with our returning forwards and will of course adjust well into our style of play.” Another 6’2” player but a midfielder is Renato Segalla. Segalla is also acclimated with the United States. For the past two years he has played at Western Nebraska Community College where he was a team captain and helped the cougars reach the regional finals. A Phi Theta Kappa scholar, Segalla has also excelled in the classroom. “Renato is powerful, strong, and skilled,” – says D’Anna. “Along with Willian Moura, he brings the usual technique we look for as well as strength and size.” The Railsplitters will start pre-season in mid August and will be looking to continue the success that has been enjoyed throughout the past few years. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
