LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 29, 2005 LMU Soccer Teams Ready for GSC TournamentHARROGATE, TN – When it comes to the game of soccer, all eyes at Lincoln Memorial are looking toward Pensacola, Florida and the 2005 Gulf South Conference Men’s and Women’s Soccer Tournaments that will be held November 4-6. On Saturday afternoon, both LMU soccer teams solidified their bid to become one of four teams from each gender to participate in this year’s tournament by defeating their opponents from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. In Saturday’s first game, the Railsplitters knocked off the Chargers by the score of 4-2 to end the 2005 regular season with an overall record of 14-3, which includes a 6-2 conference mark. With the win, the Railsplitters officially secured the #3 seed in this year’s tournament along with the University of Central Arkansas (#1 seed), the University of Montevallo (#2 seed) and either the University of West Florida or Christian Brothers University as the #4 seed. The Lady Railsplitters on the other hand capped off their 2005 regular season campaign by rolling over the visiting Lady Chargers 6-1 to finish with a 14-2-1 overall mark and a 9-1 league record. Ranked #24 nationally and #3 in the NCAA South Region, the defending NCAA South Region Champions will enter the 2005 GSC Tournament as its #2 seed and will most likely square off against the University of Central Arkansas in the opening round next Friday. Both teams will utilize the first part of the week to prepare for next weekend’s tournament before departing Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time for Pensacola. The LMU women are set to play first round action on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Central Time against the yet to be determined #3 seed opponent, while the Railsplitters will play at 4:30 p.m. Central Time on Friday against the University of Montevallo. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
