Kwoka Receives Conference Academic Honors

HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer goalkeeper Stephanie Kwoka (Johnson City, Tennessee) has been named to the All-Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team and to GSC Honor Roll.

The GSC All-Academic team is selected by faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors around the conference who evaluate a student-athlete’s civic, fraternal, academic and athletic achievement from the most recent season.  In order to qualify for this award, the student athlete must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher, be a returning athlete having played at least one year at the institution and have been a significant contributing factor to their athletic team.  The Gulf South Conference Honor roll is an award given to member institution athletes that earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher while lettering in their respective sport and is open to all participants on the squad.

A 5’7” junior, Kwoka earned the starting goalkeeper roll during her sophomore season and helped lead the Lady Railsplitters to the 2004 GSC regular season championship and LMU’s first berth in the NCAA South Region Women’s Soccer Tournament.  From there, the Lady Railsplitters eventually won the 2004 NCAA South Region Championship.

This year, Kwoka and the Lady Railsplitters again made the Gulf South Conference Tournament where they won the University’s second conference championship since 1997 and Kwoka was named to the all-tournament team.  In addition, she also earned All-GSC Second Team honors following the 2005 season and the LMU women qualified for their second consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.

The 2005 Lady Railsplitters finished the year with a record of 16-3-1 and lost three seniors to graduation.  With a talented returning class for the 2006 campaign, Kwoka and the Lady Railsplitters should have a solid foundation to build on when they begin play in the South Atlantic Conference
