LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 30, 2005 LMU Men Bounce Back from Loss to Montevallo and Shutout OBU HARROGATE – The eighteenth-ranked Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team got back on the winning track Friday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout of Ouachita Baptist University in their first home match of the season. (Box score) Last week the Railsplitters suffered their first loss of the year in Montevallo, Alabama when the University of Montevallo handed the LMU men a 6-3 loss to drop their conference record to 1-1 on the year. Although Friday’s match against OBU was considered a defensive struggle, the Railsplitters received two goals from sophomore Frederico Moojen (Balneario, Camburiu, Brazil). The first came at the 29:29 mark when Moojen scored his tenth goal of the season unassisted to give the Railsplitters a 1-0 lead which eventually taken into the intermission. Moojen’s second goal came at 70:52 on teammate Guilherme Alves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) pass to seal the fate of the Tigers and give the Railsplitters their eighth win of the year and their second in Gulf South Conference play. Now 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the GSC, the Railsplitters play host to Christian Brothers University on Sunday in a 1:00 o’clock match-up. Last season the Buccaneers handed the LMU men their only regular season conference loss when they came to Harrogate and upended the Railsplitters 1-0 in a very heated battle. With less than two days to go before the two teams meet again for the first time since that match, fans can definitely expect a physical game and one that will more then likely go down to the wire. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
