LMU Men's Soccer Downs Thomas 3-0

COLUMBUS, GA - Lincoln Memorial scored three second-half goals here Saturday to take a hard-fought, physically-played 3-0 win over Thomas University in men's soccer action. The game was played as part of the Express Oil Change / Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State.

The two squads fought to a scoreless tie in the first half, with a total of only 11 shots between them. LMU had seven shots - two of which were on goal, while Thomas had four shots, three of which were on goal. Thomas keeper Roland Mott stopped both shots he faced, while Railsplitter keeper Brent Cole had three saves in the period.

Diogo Silvy broke the ice for LMU in the 55th minute, taking a long, floating pass from Ian Richardson and pushing it past Mott for a 1-0 lead. Nelson Pizarro added to the lead at the 78:30 mark when he picked off an errant pass from TU's Phil Gordon and beat Mott one-on-one for the 2-0 lead. Vitor Souza got the final Railsplitter goal on a penalty kick at the 83:38 mark.

For the game, LMU held a 14-10 advantage in shots, out-shooting the Nighthawks 7-6 in the second half. The defense held TU to no shots on goal, thanks to at least three defensive blocks. Mott recorded a total of three saves for Thomas. The two teams committed a combined 20 fouls in the game and a total of six yellow cards were issued in the physical game.
