Moojen Named GSC Player of the Week

Frederico Moojen

HARROGATE – It’s been nearly a year since LMU men’s soccer forward Frederico Moojen led the nation in goals scored however, this weekend the 6’1” sophomore from Balneario, Camburiu, Brazil let future opponents know he is still on top of his game.

On Saturday the Railsplitters traveled to Highland Heights, Kentucky to and opened the 2005 season with a 3-2 double-overtime win over Northern Kentucky University in first round action of the John Toebben Classic.  In the match against the Norse, Moojen scored all three goals to lift the Railsplitters to victory.

On Sunday, the Railsplitters played their second match of the season, this time against Bellarmine University of Louisville, Kentucky.  Despite being held to only one goal in the 1-0 win over the Knights, again it was Moojen that struck pay-dirt for LMU to keep the Railsplitters among the ranks of the unbeaten.

Now, with two wins under his belt and looking forward to this weekend’s road games against Brewton Parker and Thomas College, the Railsplitters have received notice from the conference office that that Moojen has been selected Gulf South Conference Player of the Week.

With 26 goals to his credit in only 16 matches played since becoming a Railsplitter, Moojen’s efforts this weekend move him into a tie for fifth position all time in goals scored at LMU.  Furthermore, Moojen now ranks first in goals scored per match (1.62), first in points per match (3.69) and seventh in total points (59).

Only a sophomore eligibility wise, it is quite possible that Moojen’s best collegiate soccer is still ahead of him.  Last season the Railsplitter captured the GSC regular season championship but fell short of winning the conference tournament.  According to Moojen, only a GSC title and a chance to compete in the NCAA playoffs will satisfy the hunger of the 2005 Railsplitter soccer team.
