HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team was represented in strength on this year’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region squad that was released Wednesday morning.

Earning All-South Region First Team were LMU junior Diogo Silvy (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and sophomore Frederico Moojen (Santa Catarina, Brazil).  Silvy, a three-year starter for the Railsplitter, led LMU to its first Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Championship this season while scoring four goals and contributing a team-high 10 assists from his defensive midfield position.  A captain on the Railsplitter squad, Silvy ranks sixth all-time in career points (79), seventh in career goals (24) and first in career assist (31).

Moojen, a second-year player for the Railsplitters, led the nation in goals scored last season with 23 and surpassed that mark this year to tie the LMU all-time record (48) with former Railsplitter All-American John Payette (1993-95).  Moojen notched 25 goals this year and added six assists en route to helping the LMU men complete the year with a 15-3-1 record that included the GSC Championship.

Named to the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team was Railsplitter sophomore Vitor Souza (Sorocaba, Brazil).  A 6’0” defender, Souza also managed to help Lincoln Memorial offensively by scoring two goals this year and adding one assist.  Through his efforts on the defensive end of the field, the Railsplitters recorded seven shutouts this season, including a 5-0 thrashing of arch-rival Christian Brothers University on October 2.

The 2005 Railsplitters lose only two players to graduation and will return a solid base in 2006 that will be competing for the first time in the University’s new affiliation with the South Atlantic Conference next year.  The SAC consists of NCAA Division II men’s soccer powerhouses Carson-Newman College, Tusculum College and Catawba College, along with Mars Hill College, Wingate University, Newberry College, Lenoir-Rhyne College and Presbyterian College.
