Moojen to Enter Conference Tournament as Player of the Week
HARROGATE, TN – For the third time this season,
Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer forward Frederico Moojen has
been Gulf South Conference Player of the Week for his efforts against
Railsplitter opponents.
Last week the 6’1” sophomore from Balneario, Camburiu,
Brazil scored a total of four goals in wins over Tusculum College (3-2) and
the University of Alabama-Huntsville (4-2) to help the #24 ranked
Railsplitters end the regular season with a 14-3-0 record and earn the #3
seed in the upcoming GSC Men’s Soccer Tournament this weekend.
Moojen’s efforts last week also contributed to his
assault of the LMU men’s soccer record book. Currently, the second-year
starter ranks second in career goals in less than two seasons with 47.
Former Railsplitter All-American and All-GSC performer John Payette
(1993-95) holds the current record of 48 career goals and Moojen could
possibly break that mark this weekend in the tournament play.
This week’s player of the week award is the third
Moojen has received this year and the fourth of his collegiate soccer
career. In addition, last season Moojen was selected to the All-Gulf South
Conference Team and was Co-Player of the Year along with the University of
Central Arkansas’s Ryan McKean. With his performance thus far this season,
he is an excellent candidate to be named to the team again.
On Friday afternoon the #24 ranked Railsplitters take
on the University of Montevallo in the first round of the GSC Men’s Soccer
Tournament. The last two times the LMU men have faced the Falcons,
Montevallo has come out on top. This year UM defeated the Railsplitters in
Montevallo 6-3, and last season at the conference tournament semi-finals in
Oxford, Mississippi, the Falcons knocked off the Railsplitters 3-2. Match
time on Friday is set for 4:30 p.m. Central Time in Pensacola.
