LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 7, 2005 Railsplitters Still Rolling HARROGATE – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team continued its winning ways Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the visiting Argonauts of the University of West Florida. The Win moved the LMU men to 10-1-0 overall and to 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference. (Box score) As took place in the women’s match, it was LMU that got on the scoreboard first on a goal by sophomore Vitor Souza (Sorocaba, Brazil) at the 14:06 mark. Souza was assisted by teammate Claudio Rico (Jacarei City, Brazil) in putting the Railsplitters ahead 1-0. With the first half winding down, West Florida managed to catch the Railsplitters playing somewhat lackadaisical in the forty-fifth minute and scored a goal to even the match at 1-1. UWF’s Keith Savage used a pass from teammate Mason Hupp to tie the game before the horn sounded to end the first half. Following a slow start for both teams in the second half, LMU freshman midfielder Leonardo de Barros (Brasilia, Brazil) began to take over. de Barros scored at 59:15 with help from junior Diogo Silvy (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and again unassisted at 89:48 to shut the door on the Argonauts for the 3-1 win. The win keeps the #17 nationally ranked Railsplitters in the hunt for the Gulf South Conference regular season title and gives them the momentum of a three-match win streak going into Monday’s non-conference neutral site meeting with Saint Leo University in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
