Brazilian Connection Still Going Strong
HARROGATE,
TN – Men’s Soccer Coach
Helio D’Anna continues the tradition of bringing great players from Brazil.
The latest to join the Railsplitters is
Leandro Pereira,
of Brasilia DF, Brazil.
A 6'0" forward, Leandro hails from
the same club youth system as reining GSC Freshman of the Year
Leonardo de Barros
who recently completed his first season at LMU.
Leandro played in well known clubs in
Brasilia such as CFZ, Gama, and Sobradinho. The son of Jose Alberto and
Coelis Maria Araujo Martins, Pereira, Leandro will be a welcome addition to
the Lincoln Memorial University offensive line up.
"I am extremely
excited to add Leandro to the roster,” said D'Anna. "He has great soccer
experience and is a goal scorer which is what we need from our forwards.
It's no secret to our opponents that we lost
Frederico Moojen after
last season, so Leandro will be coming in with perfect timing."
In 2005 the LMU men's
soccer team was ranked as the 11th in the nation in goals scored per match
with an average of 2.63. The Railsplitters also boasted the 9th highest
winning percentage (0.816) and Moojen was the top scorer in the nation.
Pereira will report to pre-season along
with the rest of the roster in mid August.
