Lincoln Memorial Cross Country Teams Do Well At Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 8^th and 9^th respectively in the Sewanee Invitational held over the weekend in Sewanee, Tennessee at the University of the South.

Among the 17 teams competing, the Lincoln Memorial men finished 8^th with a team score of 227 and were led by senior All-South Atlantic Conference performer Jeremy Donahue (Sevierville, TN) who finished the race 28^th overall with a time of 28:34.06.

Finishing ahead of Lincoln Memorial were Mississippi State University (1^st-18), Emory University (2^nd-76), Bryan College (3^rd-98), Rhodes College (4^th-108), Centre College (5^th-149), Tennessee Tech (6^th-186) and Birmingham Southern who tied for 6^th with a 186.

Schools finishing behind Lincoln Memorial were Lee University (9^th-283), North Georgia (10^th-290), host team University of the South (11^th-310), Covenant College (12^th-331), the University of North Alabama (13^th-362), Maryville College (14^th-445), Hanover College (15^th-463), Reinhardt College (16^th-483) and Tennessee Wesleyan College in 17^th place with a score of 485.

The Lady Railsplitters finished 9^th among the 18 teams involved in the race and were led by All-South Atlantic Conference First Team member Emily Burke (Ewing, VA) who finished 48^th overall with a time of 21:54.13.

Finishing ahead of Lincoln Memorial were Mississippi State University (1^st 43), Emory University (2^nd 63), Birmingham Southern (3^rd 116), Rhodes College (4^th 124), Tennessee Tech University (5^th 138), Lee University (6^th 173), Hanover College (7^th 198) and Centre College in 8^th place with a score of 246.

Lincoln Memorial’s 9^th place score of 281 bested Agnes Scott College (10^th 295), as well as the University of North Alabama (11^th 313), University of the South (12^th 322), North Georgia College (13^th 345), Bryan College (14^th 420), Maryville College (15^th 424), Reinhardt College and Tennessee Wesleyan College who were both tied for 16^th place with a team score of 431 and Covenant College who came in last with a total team score of 451.

Next weekend the LMU cross country teams travel to Huntsville, Alabama where they will face off against some of their old Gulf South Conference opponents in the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial Meet hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
