Lincoln Memorial Cross Country Teams Do Well At Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 8th and 9th respectively in the Sewanee Invitational held over the weekend in Sewanee, Tennessee at the University of the South.

 

Among the 17 teams competing, the Lincoln Memorial men finished 8th with a team score of 227 and were led by senior All-South Atlantic Conference performer Jeremy Donahue (Sevierville, TN) who finished the race 28th overall with a time of 28:34.06.

 

Finishing ahead of Lincoln Memorial were Mississippi State University (1st-18), Emory University (2nd-76), Bryan College (3rd-98), Rhodes College (4th-108), Centre College (5th-149), Tennessee Tech (6th-186) and Birmingham Southern who tied for 6th with a 186.

 

Schools finishing behind Lincoln Memorial were Lee University (9th-283), North Georgia (10th-290), host team University of the South (11th-310), Covenant College (12th-331), the University of North Alabama (13th-362), Maryville College (14th-445), Hanover College (15th-463), Reinhardt College (16th-483) and Tennessee Wesleyan College in 17th place with a score of 485.

 

The Lady Railsplitters finished 9th among the 18 teams involved in the race and were led by All-South Atlantic Conference First Team member Emily Burke (Ewing, VA) who finished 48th overall with a time of 21:54.13.

 

Finishing ahead of Lincoln Memorial were Mississippi State University (1st 43), Emory University (2nd 63), Birmingham Southern (3rd 116), Rhodes College (4th 124), Tennessee Tech University (5th 138), Lee University (6th 173), Hanover College (7th 198) and Centre College in 8th place with a score of 246.

 

Lincoln Memorial’s 9th place score of 281 bested Agnes Scott College (10th 295), as well as the University of North Alabama (11th 313), University of the South (12th 322), North Georgia College (13th 345), Bryan College (14th 420), Maryville College (15th 424), Reinhardt College and Tennessee Wesleyan College who were both tied for 16th place with a team score of 431 and Covenant College who came in last with a total team score of 451.

 

Next weekend the LMU cross country teams travel to Huntsville, Alabama where they will face off against some of their old Gulf South Conference opponents in the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial Meet hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
