LMU Women’s Cross Country Takes 5th At SAC Championship

SALISBURY, NC – The Lady Railsplitter cross country team took 5th place in Saturday’s South Atlantic Conference Championship held in Salisbury, North Carolina.

 

Running in their first collegiate race since the October 6 Mountain Top Classic, the Lady Railsplitters finished behind 2007 Champion Wingate University, Lenoir-Rhyne College (2nd), Mars Hill College (3rd) and Carson-Newman College (4th).  Behind Lincoln Memorial were Newberry College (6th), Tusculum College (7th) and Catawba College in 8th.

 

LMU sophomore and local product Jennifer Ely (Jonesville, VA) was the top finisher for the Lady Railsplitters.  Ely ran the 5K race in 20:37.89 to finish in 15th place, while LMU dual sport athlete Kathleen Rollet (Bouge Chambalud, France) was 20th in 21:01.31.  In 21st place was Lady Railsplitter senior Michelle Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN).  Ratliff completed the distance in 21:02.03 as junior Emily Burke (Ewing, VA) finished closely behind in 23rd place in 21:03.89.

 

The final half of LMU’s sisters Ratliff, Deidre Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN), placed 33rd in Saturday’s SAC Championship by crossing the finish line in 21:59.00, while freshman Jessica Brandes (Maryville, TN) was 40th in 22:22.83.  Newcomer to the LMU cross country program Lindsay Parda (Melbourne, FL) was 49th in 23:26.61 and senior Ginny Bumpus (Hendersonville, TN) was 69th in 27:15.51.

 

The Lady Railsplitters lose five seniors following the 2007 season to graduation.  Only Jessica Brandes, Emily Burke and Jennifer Ely will have eligibility remaining in 2008.
