LMU Basketball Teams To Open Season Wednesday

HARROGATE, TN – Both Lincoln Memorial University basketball teams will open the 2006-07 season on Wednesday night when they host Lees-McRae college in a doubleheader in the Turner Arena.

The women tip-off first at 6:00 pm.  Coach Roger Vannoy begins his 25th season at the helm of the LMU women's program and comes into tonight's game with a 449-231 record.  The Lady Railsplitters are looking to put behind last season's 7-20 record and hope to make some noise in their first go-around in the South Atlantic Conference.  The two teams split in their meetings last season with Lees-McRae winning 59-55 in the season opener at Banner Elk, North Carolina, and LMU winning 64-53 in the rematch in Harrogate on Dec. 1.

Following the women's game, the men will tip off at approximately 8:00 pm.  Coach Hugh Watson returns for his third season at the helm and also looks to overcome the 7-20 record of the 2005-06 season.  The two teams have only met once before when the Railsplitters defeated Lees-McRae 89-51 in the LMU Holiday Tournament consolation game in the 1991-92 season.

Ticket prices for the 2006-07 season are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, children 6-18 and visiting college students with a valid ID.  Children under five as well as LMU students, faculty and staff (with ID) will get in for free.
