LMU Improves To 4-0 With 69-56 Win Over Simmons

HARROGATE, TNA 10-2 run in the middle of the first half helped propel the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team to the 69-56 victory over Simmons College of Kentucky on Thursday. (Box score)

Simmons College of Kentucky are re-starting basketball after a 76-year absence and fielding a team composed entirely of freshman.  They never led in the game and managed to tie the score only once when Michael LaPradd (Louisville, KY) hit the short-range jumper to make the score 4-4.  LMU then answered back with a 10-2 run to grab a lead that they would never relinquish.

Simmons (1-7) was led in scoring by LePradd and Ceedrick Ware (Louisville, KY) with 12 points each.  They were joined by Jordan Newby (Louisville, KY) with 11 points.  Ware also led the Panthers in rebounds with a game-high nine boards.

LMU (4-0) was led by freshman Beau Brown's (Athens, TN) 20 points.  David Lopez (Tucson, AZ) scored 19 points; Joplin Johnson (Chicago, IL) had 12; and Kai Wells (Memphis, TN) added in 11 points.  Johnson and junior Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, GA) led the Railsplitters on the boards with seven rebounds each.

For the evening, Simmons dominated the glass as they out-rebounded the Railsplitters 41-28.

The Railsplitters start the season at 4-0 for only the fifth time in school history and the first time since the 1976-77 season. The other times were in the 1957-58, 1936-37 and 1925-26 seasons. They now start a six-game road swing against Brevard on Dec. 5.  Their next home appearance will also be their first-ever South Atlantic Conference home tilt when they host Wingate on Jan. 6.
