Big Second Half Allows Railsplitters To Blow Past Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, NC – The Railsplitters received 19 second half points by junior Terry Delaney (Murfreesboro, TN) in Tuesday night’s 85-64 victory over Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina to come away with their first road-win of the year. (Box score)

Delaney, a 6’5” forward, finished the evening with 25 points to lead Lincoln Memorial its second win of the year.  Also scoring double figures with 17 points was Railsplitter freshman Ryan Whitaker (Pineville, KY).  Combined with Beau Brown’s (Athens, TN) 15 points and the rebounding of senior forward Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, GA), Lincoln Memorial unleashed an offensive barrage in the second half that broke the back of the Bobcats.  “We had some warriors tonight,” said LMU Head Coach Hugh Watson.  “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would come over here and beat them by 21 points after watching them on game film.”

With back-to-back wins this week over Virginia Intermont College (68-58) and now the win over Lees-McRae, the Railsplitters will have to turn it up a notch this weekend when they open the South Atlantic Conference schedule by playing host to Carson-Newman College on Saturday evening.  The Railsplitters and the Eagles will tip-off a rivalry that dates back to the 1920’s at 8:00 p.m. in the Tex Turner Arena following the women’s game with Carson-Newman which is set to get underway at 6:00 o’clock.
