LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release May 8, 2008 Railsplitters Add To Men’s Hoops Roster HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball Head Coach Josh Schertz has been hard at work putting together the missing pieces for the 2008-09 roster. On Thursday morning, Schertz announced Carlos Sanford, a 6’0” point guard from Durham, North Carolina as the latest addition to the Railsplitter basketball roster. Throughout the 2007-08 season, Sanford averaged 22.5 points per game while making 72 3pt. field goals for Riverside High School in Durham, North Carolina. In addition, Sanford hit 43.6% of his shots from the field, while hitting 80.4% of his free throws and 36.5% of his shots from behind the three point line. “Carlos is an exciting player to watch,” says high school Head Coach Tim Ross. “He can score quickly, he can shoot the three point shot, he can penetrate and man can he pass! Carlos is a very unselfish player who loves a fast pace game. He sees the court better than any player I have ever coached.” During his senior year at Riverside High School, Sanford received such honors as Team Captain, Team MVP, Pac-6 All-Conference, NCBCA All-District and Durham Herald Sun All-Area. His junior year Sanford was Hoop Hall Classic MVP, was a member of the Pac-6 Regular Season Championship Team, a member of the Pac-6 Tournament Championship Team, a member of the Sectional Championship Team and finished as a Regional Runner-up in the state semifinals. “Carlos is a guy who has game changing speed,” says Schertz. “He is a great fit for our system who along with all of his offensive abilities is an even better defender. I truly believe Carlos will have a wonderful career here at LMU.” Sanford joins new LMU signees Justin Allen (Lithonia, GA), Brandon O’Brien (Stone Mountain, GA), Tony Martin (West Chester, OH), Brandon Armstrong (Atlanta, GA), Stuart Miller (Harrogate, TN) and Desmond Johnson (Cumberland, KY) as the latest additions to the Railsplitter roster for 2008-09. The group signifies the largest group of new players to be signed by a Railsplitter men’s basketball coach in a single season since Marc Comstock took over the program in 1991. -LMU- For additional
