LMU Men’s Basketball Recognizes Four At Annual Athletics Banquet

HARROGATE, TN – Officials with the Lincoln Memorial University basketball team recognized four of its team members on Tuesday night at the University annual athletics banquet held on the LMU campus.

Named Newcomer of the Year was junior Terry Delany (Murfreesboro, TN).  Delaney led the team in scoring this season with 17.4 points per game while also leading the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards each night.  Incidentally, Delaney also finished second on the team in assists with 64.

The Most Improved award went to LMU freshman Ryan Whitaker (Pineville, KY).  In his first year with the Railsplitters, Whitaker averaged 11.1 points per game while handing out 55 assists, hitting 75.4% of his shots from the free throw line and knocking down 43.1% of his shots from the field.

The 2007-08 Best Defensive Player award was presented to senior forward Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, GA).  Jones started in 23-of-28 games this season and finished third on the squad in steals with 36 and was second on the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game.

Recipient of the 2007-08 Mental Attitude award was Railsplitter junior Wadner Joseph (Miami, FL).  Joseph started in 15-of-27 games this season, averaging 7.7 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds.  Joseph finished the season by hitting 41.4% of his shots from the field.

All four of these young men are expected to return next season and are on projected schedules to graduate with their undergraduate degrees.
