LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 10, 2007 Railsplitters Roll Over Presbyterian To Remain Tied For South Atlantic Conference Lead CLINTON, SC – For most of the game Wednesday evening against Presbyterian College, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team looked dominating in its 74-57 win over the Blue Hose. (Box score) Lincoln Memorial hit 58.7% from the field and a blistering 45.5% from behind the arc to move to 3-1 in league play and to stay tied with Wingate University for first place in the South Atlantic Conference. From the opening tip Lincoln Memorial looked like a polished team that had been playing together for many years. That is quite remarkable since the Railsplitters only have four players from last season’s squad. Shooting guard David Lopez (Tucson, AZ) continued to set the nets ablaze by scoring 22 points on seven of thirteen shooting which included three three-pointers. Athens, Tennessee, freshman Beau Brown (AThens, TN) notched another double-figure performance of 15 points to back Monday night’s 25 point output against Tusculum College. Artavius Mitchell (Chicago, IL) also scored double digits for Lincoln Memorial by adding 10 points on a perfect four of four shooting from the field to help the Railsplitter cause. At 8-5 overall and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play, this Saturday’s game with Newberry proves to be even more crucial than originally expected. With Wingate hosting Carson-Newman and having already defeated LMU in Harrogate, the Railsplitters need to travel to Newberry, South Carolina, and knock off the Indians of Newberry College to remain tied for the lead in the SAC. Tip-off for Saturday’s game is set for 4:00 p.m. You can watch the game live online at www.cstv.com/ncaa/divii.
